From Require.js to Webpack - Part 2 (the how)

This is the follow up to a post I wrote recently called From Require.js to Webpack - Party 1 (the why) which was published in my personal blog.

In that post I talked about 3 main reasons for moving from require.js to webpack:

  1. Common JS support
  2. NPM support
  3. a healthy loader/plugin ecosystem.

Here I'll instead talk about some of the technical challenges that we faced during the migration. Despite the clear benefits in developer experience (DX) the setup was fairly difficult and I'd like to cover some of the challanges we faced to make the transition a bit easier.

Resources for Learning Stream Data Processing

Introduction

This gist started with a collection of resources I was maintaining on stream data processing — also known as distributed logs, data pipelines, event sourcing, CQRS, and other names.

Over time the set of resources grew quite large and I received some interest in a more guided, opinionated path for learning about stream data processing. So I added the reading list.

Please send me feedback!

#! /bin/bash
# streaming on Ubuntu via ffmpeg.
# see http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Screencasts for full documentation
# see http://www.thegameengine.org/miscellaneous/streaming-twitch-tv-ubuntu/
# for instructions on how to use this gist
if [ ! -f ~/.twitch_key ]; then
echo "Error: Could not find file: ~/.twitch_key"
echo "Please create this file and copy past your stream key into it. Open this script for more details."

Guide to set up nginx as non-transparent SSL proxy, which subsitutes strings in the server responses

Use nginx as Non-Transparent SSL Proxy

Introduction

Many mobile apps have back-end API servers. They usually rely on the API replies to determine whether certain information is supposed to be shown. If the API responses could be manipulated on the fly, we may easily fool an unmodified app to expose some private data.

This manual guides you to set up nginx as non-transparent SSL proxy, which just subsitutes strings in the server responses (i.e. man-in-the-middle attack ourself). For both server-side (their API servers) and client-side (your device), the whole process is almost transparent.
