A quick summary of blake2, a cryptographic hash function

BLAKE2

  • BLAKE2 is an improved version of the SHA-3 finalist BLAKE, and was designed by a team of experts in cryptanalysis, implementation, and cryptographic engineering; namely Jean-Philippe Aumasson, Samuel Neves, Zooko Wilcox-O'Hearn and Christian Winnerlein.

  • BLAKE2s (the one checksum currently uses) computes a message digest that is 256 bits long, and represented as a 64-character hexadecimal number, e.g. 4264cb256d94533b6e152da59256638bc6adfda3efc5550d7607d4e6e45592fc.

Types

  • BLAKE2b (or just BLAKE2) is optimized for 64-bit platforms and produces digests of any size between 1 and 64 bytes.

Some Internet IP things

IP conflict symptom

  • No internet access, because the gateway detects that your mac address and ip address does not match what is stored
  • ping 127.0.0.1--OK
  • ping network-ip--For windows 7, this appear to be OK while for Mac OSX, ping: sendto: No route to host error log pops out
  • ping network-gateway--ping: sendto: No route to host
  • arp -a—-For windows 7, it may output history version of the arp table while for Mac OSX, it outputs nothing

DHT walkthrough notes

DHT Walkthrough Notes

I've put together these notes as I read about DHT's in depth and then learned how the libtorrent implementation based on the Kademlia paper actually works.

What problem does this solve?

400,000,000,000 (400 billion stars), that's a 4 followed by 11 zeros. The number of atoms in the universe is estimated to be around 10^82. A DHT with keys of 160 bits, can have 2^160 possible numbers, which is around 10^48
