How to use git-annex and bup for managing distributed content

[git-annex][1]

git-annex allows managing files with git, without checking the file contents into git. While that may seem paradoxical, it is useful when dealing with files larger than git can currently easily handle, whether due to limitations in memory, time, or disk space.

Using bup in conjunction with git-annex

[bup: It backs things up][2]

This formula can be used in Google Sheets to take a value in bytes and then represent it in a human-readable format with binary units (KiB, MiB, GiB, and so on).
=ROUND( A2/(1024)^(FLOOR(log(A2)/log(1024))), 2) & " " & SWITCH( FLOOR( log(A2) / log(1024) ) ,0,"Bytes",1,"KiB",2,"MiB",3,"GiB",4,"TiB")

Adjusting child processes for PHP-FPM (Nginx)

Adjusting child processes for PHP-FPM (Nginx)

When setting these options consider the following:

  • How long is your average request?
  • What is the maximum number of simultaneous visitors the site(s) get?
  • How much memory on average does each child process consume?

Determine if the max_children limit has been reached.

  • sudo grep max_children /var/log/php?.?-fpm.log.1 /var/log/php?.?-fpm.log
