Home Assistant Model Context Protocol integration

TL;DR

Completing these steps will let you have an LLM Powered Web scraper in Home Assistant through the Model Context Protocol with an example of how you could make a template entity for extracting new headlines for a display.

Pre-requisites

This assumes you already know about the following:

Check the HTTP status codes for a list of URLs in a file. Undoubtedly there are fancier ways to do this with wget or some other common Linux utilities, but I’m not good enough at bash scripting to find a way to do that with minimal memory usage (if the list of URLs is millions long) and with nice formatting, so I just wrote a script.

Ruby style guide git pre-commit hook using Rubocop as the style guide checker. Only runs on staged ruby files that have been added and/or modified.
#!/usr/bin/env ruby
require 'rubocop'
changed_files = `git diff --name-only --cached`.split(/\n/).
select { |file_name|
file_name.end_with?(".rb") ||
file_name.match?(/^Gemfile/)
}.join(' ')

Upgrade PostgreSQL 9.6.5 to 10.0 using Homebrew (macOS)
After automatically updating Postgres to 10.0 via Homebrew, the pg_ctl start command didn't work.
The error was "The data directory was initialized by PostgreSQL version 9.6, which is not compatible with this version 10.0."
Database files have to be updated before starting the server, here are the steps that had to be followed:
# need to have both 9.6.x and latest 10.0 installed, and keep 10.0 as default
brew unlink postgresql
brew install postgresql@9.6
brew unlink postgresql@9.6
brew link postgresql

Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan Setup

Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Custom recipe to get OS X 10.11 El Capitan running from scratch, setup applications and developer environment. This is very similar (and currently mostly the same) as my 10.10 Yosemite setup recipe (as found on this gist https://gist.github.com/kevinelliott/0726211d17020a6abc1f). Note that I expect this to change significantly as I install El Capitan several times.

I use this gist to keep track of the important software and steps required to have a functioning system after a semi-annual fresh install. On average, I reinstall each computer from scratch every 6 months, and I do not perform upgrades between distros.

This keeps the system performing at top speeds, clean of trojans, spyware, and ensures that I maintain good organizational practices for my content and backups. I highly recommend this.

You are encouraged to fork this and modify it to your heart's content to match your own needs.
