Using xdebug with Windows 10, WSL2, Docker and VS Code

Configuring xdebug to work with Windows 10 (WSL2), Docker and VS Code

Configuring your dev environment to be able to use xdebug when you're working on Windows 10 (with WSL2) and Docker with VS Code can be (a bit) tricky.
This is a quick reminder of how I've done that.

Configuring the environment

  1. Install and configure xdebug in Docker

Install xdebug according to the Docker image you're using

Setup ESLint with Prettier

ESLint with Prettier Setup

Basically, when using Prettier, all ESLint styling rules should be disabled.
This can be done with eslint-config-prettier.

See .eslintrc.js example below.
In prettier.config.js you can use anything you want (see example below).

Now the tricky part is how to run them...
Usually ESLint should run first, then Prettier.

Upload file to Storage, add custom metadata, and fetch that metadata in Functions
const functions = require('firebase-functions');
const util = require('util');
const admin = require('firebase-admin');
admin.initializeApp();
exports.uploadedFile = functions.storage.object().onFinalize((uploadedObject) => {
console.log('object keys', Object.keys(uploadedObject));
// This contains the custom metadata
console.log('metedata keys', Object.keys(uploadedObject.metadata));
