v2ray wss over cloudflare 8443 proxy
use "time curl --socks5 localhost:8081 https://1.1.1.1 | head -n 20" to compare naiveproxy, v2ray, wssocks, and qv2ray:
naive quic direct: 0.4s
naive http2 direct: 0.4s
v2ray over cloudflare wss: 0.4s to 0.7s
wssocks-linux-amd64 over cloudflare wss: 0.6s
qv2ray gun over cloudflare grpc 0.7s to 0.9s
(naive http2 won't proxy over cloudflare: Network/http2/help: "The connection from Cloudflare to your origin will be made over HTTP 1.x")

Benchmarking is Hard, Yo.

So, I was reading Why You shouldn’t use lodash anymore and use pure JavaScript instead, because once upon a time, I shifted from Underscore to Lodash, and I'm always on the lookout for the bestest JavaScript stdlib. At the same time, there was recently an interesting conversation on Twitter about how some of React's functionality can be easily implemented in modern vanilla JS. The code that came out of that was elegant and impressive, and so I have taken that as a message to ask if we really need the framework.

Unfortunately, it didn't start out well. After copy-pasting the ~100 lines of code that Lodash executes to perform a find, there was then this shocking claim: Lodash takes 140ms, and native find takes 0ms.

moment.fromNow() implemented in vanilla JavaScript as a simple, standalone function. Runs in the browser. No dependencies required.
/**
* Implements all the behaviors of moment.fromNow(). Pass a
* valid JavaScript Date object and the method will return the
* time that has passed since that date in a human-readable
* format. Passes the moment test suite for `fromNow()`.
* See: https://momentjs.com/docs/#/displaying/fromnow/
*
* @example
*
* var pastDate = new Date('2017-10-01T02:30');

Debugging

Debugging JavaScript Applications

A practical distillation for Fullstack Academy students

Faults in computer problems were theorized as far back as 1843, when Ada Lovelace noted of Babbage's Analytical Engine, "Granted that the actual mechanism is unerring in its processes, the cards may give it wrong orders." Almost 160 years later, NIST reported that software errors cost the US $59 billion annually. Clearly, some of the cards are wrong. However, unlike Grace Hopper's famous moth, most of the time the culprit is ourselves.

Debugging is a sanitization procedure consisting of:

  • Preventing bugs in the first place, through good practices and assistive tooling.
  • Detecting bugs when they first arise, through proper error handling and testing.
